The Balourdet String Quartet was formed in 2018 at Rice University in Houston, Texas. In October of 2019, the quartet received the second prize at the Carl Nielsen International ChamberMusic Competition. The Balourdet has shared the stage with renowned artists including Cho-Liang Lin, as well as members of the Dover Quartet. It has studied and performed at festivals including the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, and the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute. Summer 2020 will include performances at the La Jolla Music Society Summerfest and a return to the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. The quartet studies at the Shepherd School at Rice University, where they work primarily with James Dunham and Norman Fischer as well as Paul Kantor, Cho-Liang Lin, and Brinton Smith. They will enter the New England Conservatory as the resident quartet of the Professional Quartet Program this fall, where they will work with Paul Katz and other members of the string faculty.
